Wheat-back Lincoln cents were minted from 1909 to 1958. They depict Abraham Lincoln on the obverse (front) and the reverse design has Ears of Wheat on each side, hence the nickname “wheatties”. Old wheat back pennies were made of almost solid copper (95% copper and 5% tin/zinc). Today's cents are copper plated zinc. 1958 was the final year of the Wheat ears cents. In 1959 the US government changed the reverse design of the Lincoln penny to a Lincoln Memorial design.

This bag contains 5,000 circulated wheat cents.  (That’s right, five thousand!) We machine count them when putting them in the canvas bag.

Dates will vary, just as they were pulled from circulation years ago. (Most will be from the last twenty years or so of production.) These are all unsorted, unsearched by us, and dated before 1959. A nice mixture of circulated wheaties - 97% or more have nice readable dates.
