Sacagawea United States Dollar Coins SET -
-
Sacagawea Indian design US dollars were first produced in 2000 and each year since. The U.S. government mints at Philadephia (P mint mark) and Denver (D mint mark) produce general coins for circulation, while proof coins with "S" mintmarks were made at the San Francisco mint. Proof Sac golden dollars were sold at a premium by the mint and usually are only available in sets with other size coins.
-
Consequently the number of proofs produced is much less than the P or D circulation mint marks. (Although sacajawea dollars are gold in color, they are not made of the metal gold.)
The coins in this set are graded PR-69 DCAM by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service). PCGS is perhaps the most popular independent third party coin grading service today. A grade of PR70 is absolute "perfect". Some experts say there is no such thing as a "perfect" coin. In fact, some grading services will not place a grade on any coin above PR-69. One of the highest grades available. The attribute DCAM means that the coin has a "deep cameo" mirror like surface and is exceptionally nice. Many proof coins from the US government Mint will have microscopic flaws keeping them from meeting this strict PR69 DCAM grade.
These USdollar coins have been graded, certified as genuine, encased in a tamper resistant holder, and assigned their own unique serial numbers. Quantities of high grade coins are limited. Some years are scarcer than others. These very high grade certified PCGS graded coins are the cream of the crop. We know you will be pleased. Satisfaction Guaranteed !
More about the Sacagawea golden dollar coins:
First year of the SAC golden dollar began in 2000. Although gold in color, it is made of copper and manganese brass. It is the same size as the Susan B. Anthony dollar that preceded it, but much smaller than the Eisenhower Dollar coins made from 1971 to 1978. It was designed by artist Glenna Goodacre. The obverse design depicts the indian Sacgawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste. Sacajewea is know as the interpreter and guide to explorers Meriwether Louis and William Clark. Reverse was designed by mint engraver Thomas D. Rogers, Sr. and depicts an eagle in flight.
Coin composition: Outer layer is manganese brass, with an inner core of pure copper. Weight is 8.1 grams and is 26.5mm in diameter.
