In 2003 silver half dollar coins were not minted for circulation and were only available in US Mint issued sets. Each of these coins is a Proof Half dollar coin that was minted at the United States government mint in San Francisco and has an "S" mint mark.

These were only available in special goverment issued Proof coin sets. Someone had to break up their sets to make these available for sale invidually. You can tell that they took great care in placing each coin in a protective soft plastic flip for easy storage. Each coin is in mint proof condition.
Mintage was only approximately 1,126,000.
